Where God Is
I was driving home from a church committee meeting yesterday evening when I noticed that the early-evening sky was sending ethereal shafts of light down onto Northeast Portland through what I tend to think of as "God-clouds." Lowering my eyes to negotiate the intersection of Halsey and 100th, I passed a scruffy-looking guy on a bike. My first reaction was to think, huh, better focus back on the beauty up above us.
And then I realized: pretty clouds are nice, but God is in the scruffy-looking guy on the bike.
