thankful thursday

This week I am thankful (among other things) for:

* walks "around the neighborhood" trailing the kid on her new bike
* daffodils and hyacinth
* outspoken students
* good books
* moments of inspiration
* cheese
* kind words
* occasional glimpses of blue sky
* streaming British television programs

How 'bout you?

  1. Thankful for a few days off with my boys :)

    Which Brit TV programmes do you watch?

  2. Hooray for days off! Enjoy. :-)

    We watch quite a lot of British TV via DVD service and now streaming -- usually a couple years old by the time it's available, although a few things have come along more quickly. We're fairly eclectic. At the moment we're into "Kingdom" (Stephen Fry). My husband loves "Spooks" (they call it "MI-5" in the US market) and we just finished the final episodes -- they released them here more quickly than usual. We have a thing for murder mysteries and courtroom dramas... "Inspector Lewis," "Waking the Dead," "Blue Murder," "Judge John Deed" and the like. Some period stuff, including (although not limited to) "Downton Abbey," though we have yet to see Series 2. We haven't been able to get ahold of it yet via Netflix and we're about ready to simply buy it. Also loved "Monarch of the Glen" and "Ballykissangel" from several years back. (And, my husband has fond childhood memories of watching the "All Creatures Great and Small" shows with his dad, so we've bought them on DVD and he's been indoctrinating the 6-year-old!)

    Any particular favorites or suggestions?

  3. Wow - you are more clued in on Brit TV than I am - I should be coming to you for suggestions! I am not a big TV fan to be honest - and the only programmes from your list I have seen more than one or two of is All Creatures Great and Small - but that is only because my dad used to watch it when I was growing up too! Everyone here raved about Downton Abbey - but I have yet to catch any of it. The only thing I really watch (and I catch that on iplayer) is The Apprentice - and I work my way through my boxset of Friends yearly! So, the Brit Tv medal definitely goes to you! :) Enjoy!
