melting

I had a lovely time picking blueberries and marionberries with the 5-year-old this morning, but when it came time to leave there was a bit of an Issue. This precipitated extensive back-seat fussing and general ill temper, and by early afternoon my thoughts while changing the sheets trended toward affirmation that the Victorians had the right idea; boarding school for small children was an excellent system.

Then, a small hand slipped something through the door. Turned out to be a card involving a lovely flamingo and on the inside, "Two Hearts! See? An orange one and a red one!"

And, of course, I melted.

It may not be a profoundly theological concept, but I suspect God's a little like that. We must really get on God's nerves with our fussing and our obstinate behavior and our debt ceiling crises and so on. And yet... he sees the parts that are lovable, too. And the other stuff melts away.

Thanks be to God for that grace.
