thanks of the day

I'm thankful today for a little girl with tremendous bounce-back capabilities, for stuffed kitties enjoying their "breakfast" on a pillow in the kid's room, for good friends and wonderful family, and for Julie's jumbo chocolate chip M & M cookies (one of which the kid consumed in its entirety yesterday evening, Julie, in the event I forget to tell you!).

(Interesting sidenote: did you know the term "jumbo" actually originates with an elephant named Jumbo and imported first to Britain, then purchased by P.T. Barnum and toured around the United States as part of his traveling circus? The elephant was named as a baby after the witch doctor-associated term "mumbo jumbo," and grew to be the largest creature in captivity. Once Barnum and his marketing skills got ahold of him, "Jumbo" transformed into the generic "jumbo" and became associated with anything large. Unfortunately, Jumbo the elephant met his demise in a railroad collision, but his name -- and associated properties -- live on. And now you have the ultimate proof that this blog is written by a history dork.)
