thankful thursday

Yesterday I twice had the opportunity, once while looking at the Christ in our Home devotional I pick up at our church and once in the ELCA's daily Bible reading email, to reflect upon Jeremiah 29:1-14.  The passage starts with one of those context-placing litanies of who'd gone where, and when, but soon the verses turn to a description of what God's people are to do while exiled in Babylon.  They're meant to build homes and plant crops, to start families and support the welfare of the city where they live.  Someday, God will provide a path back to Israel -- but in the meantime, they need to live each day fully.  During this time of transition in my own world I've really appreciated this reminder that we're called to live life fully, day by day, even when we're waiting.

I am thankful, as well, for:

* cats
* leftover turkey (and the feeling of accomplishment from finally cooking up the turkey that's been sitting in our freezer since last fall!)
* house showings
* rain
* trail mix
* great communities
* serendipity
* garlic-stuffed olives

How about you?
