peace on earth and mercy mild

I am starting this post just as the wind kicks up here in the Portland metro area, where high winds are forecast through the middle of the day.  I can appreciate the atmosphere-scouring effects of a blustery day, and I do enjoy a gentle breeze, but I can't say I'm much of a fan of high wind.  I do, however, enjoy the calm that follows a storm -- a palpable release from the fury and fluster of the winds that came before.  Peace on earth and mercy mild are most tangible when contrasted with the more blustery elements of life's experiences.
