with the fire of life empassioned
This lyric didn't ring a bell when first I read it, so I looked it up on Google... and realized it's from "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," which is one of those songs that sends prickles down my scalp. Clearly, however, I hadn't ever paid much attention to the words themselves, instead becoming transfixed by the beauty of Bach's music. (He was a Lutheran, y'know.)
The English text we associate with this music was written by a poet named Robert Bridges. "Jesu" is a hymn of praise to the One who created us, who fashioned our bodies and gave us life -- "empassioned" us with the "fire of life." That One is Jesu -- Jesus.
Jesus is part of the Trinity. Jesus = God incarnate, the Word among us. In this season of waiting and watching, take that fully on board. The baby in the manger is God. Sit in the awe of that recognition.
